Feroxsm Application at Brown Field / Real Estate Development Site

In early 2006, ARS was contracted to emplace ZVI powder at a brownfield site in southwest Florida to remediate PCE and its daughter products resulting from previous dry-cleaning operations. The PCE has been detected at concentrations as high as 44 mg/liter.  The site is a prime real-estate location in Fort Myers, FL slated to be developed as a shopping center.

Field operations were conducted under a two-phased remedial approach consisting of the installation of Feroxsm treatment barrier along the perimeter of the CVOC plume and installation of a Feroxsm treatment cell within the suspected CVOC Source Area.  A total of 85,347 lbs of ZVI were successfully emplaced within the target intervals via 47 temporary injection points. Ten of the injection points targeted the source area while the rest formed a passive treatment barrier along the perimeter of the plume.

Within three months of the injection, the dissolved PCE concentrations in monitoring wells were reduced to single-digit ppb levels.  cis-1,2-DCE and VC were observed to initially increase as a result of the PCE dechlorination followed by an eventual decrease.
