Mr. Chen has managed and coordinated more than 25 projects involving the use of reactive materials, such as zero-valent iron and chemical oxidants in treating chlorinated volatile organic compounds and PCBs. He has closely supervised all phases of such projects from baseline sampling, treatability study, pilot testing to full-scale implementation and the subsequent performance-monitoring and evaluation program.
Steve has performed several bench-top tests comparing the reactivity of different commercially available ZVI materials in the continuing effort to identify appropriate powders for use in ARS’ injection processes.
With fifteen years of experience in the industry, Mr. Chen has extensive experience in groundwater and subsurface airflow and contaminant transport modeling using commercially available models, proprietary codes as well as self-constructed analytical models. One of his specialties as a senior engineer was to creatively solve or analyze technical challenges by integrating principals from various different fields such as fluid mechanics, geology, mechanical engineering, chemistry, microbiology and physics.
He has also led and performed numerous Soil Vapor Extraction, Multi-phase Extraction, Air Sparging and Bioventing pilot testing, analyses and design as well as the subsequent management of the operation and monitoring of full-scale systems.
